Hi all,
I think the image posted says it all. If anyone has any suggestions or feels as strongly  about the topic as I do lets keep this topic open as long as possible to spread the word. I dont like fishing in a dump and neither do you guys. Feel free to name other areas which need serious attention in your locality.
FREE YOUR LOCAL COASTLINE OF LITTER. JUST BAG IT AND BIN IT :)

Hello Corbyeire,
I'll make it my business to see this place is cleaned up. Just after mailing Clare County council about the problem and made some suggestions to them. Am going mailing the Minister for the environment also later today to see what reply I get. If no success there, I will get it published in local then national newspapers if I have to. After all it is upto local authorities to provide Bins and to make sure bins are emptied regularly. Yer a good man for the fishing I see. Thanks for helping with the rubbish situation too, much appreciated. Was fishing in Carraroe yesterday had a good one. Will post a topic later on that. :)
Here is the mail I sent to Clare County Council....
To whom it concerns,
I am a native of Co.Galway and frequently travel to The Burren Co.Clare to admire its beauty and do a spot of fishing. On my last visit to Blackhead Co.Clare I was appalled to see the amount of litter dumped all over the road sides and rocks all along the coastline. I am a keen sea angler and wish to help tidy up your coastline by simply taking home any rubbish I see lying around on the rocky coastline where I intend fishing. My last trip fishing I filled 3 black bin liner bags in 20 minutes. That gives you an idea of how much litter is around the place.
I am suggesting that Clare County Council
1: put up numerous signs (not just 1 or 2) all along the coastline from Blackhead to Ballyreen to notify people that its not okay to litter and to impose fines if they do so.
2: During the summer months it would be no harm for the Council to organise a major clean up of the coastline in conjunction with the public. (Simply advertise in the local and National papers) Those who do care will attend. As the old saying goes,"Many hands make little work".
3: Community wardens could be employed to patrol the coastline to educate people about the problem and impose fines if necessary.
4: Last but not least there is a serious shortage of bins in the area. Not tiny bins that you could fill with one shopping bag but some extra large bins which could be emptied once a fortnight by Clare Co.Council.
I look forward to hearing from up and hope to see what you can do to help.
Thanks for reading.

Guys who call themselves sea anglers and leave all their litter around after them ARE NOT SEA ANGLERS. People like that need to open their eyes and respect their surroundings. Whatever club is holding the competition should provide one small wheelie bin on the beach for the duration of the competition. Competitiors can be notified at the start of the competition where the bin is located and to dispose of their litter correctly. Okay some people might say where are you going to fit the wheelie bin. If a bin isnt suitable simply place a bin liner on a post for the duration of the competition. We dont want the sea getting any worse off than it is in the new Smirnoff Tv Advertisement.

clare co co are well aware of the problem in blackhead, ballyryan etc. ad inifinitum - just how do you police it
there simply isint the resources to police it
as for big bins they will start to be used for domestic waste and then when they are full other domestic waste will just be left beside it if at all - maybe if the council empties it regularly it might work - but this all costs money in a time of very little resources
it is not as if the place relies on visuals for the anglers to be there - the bashers will come no matter how bad the place is - clare co co is not relying on any tourism revenue from this place - it is more likely to spend the clean up resources on beaches and walks that blackhead etc.
id say they have just given up on the place
the best bet could be to do them for drink driving as happened a few times on that coast road last year
a few fines and bans from driving word would soon get out

Thats not a bad idea but something has to be done about the place.
I go down to brittas bay a bit and there is a fair bit of rubbish there as well, but i´d say its from the young people drinking there but you can also see the old ragworm boxes and other bait boxes too and they´re not from the young people. Its not that hard to Bring your rubbish home with you or even use reusable bait tubs. Ihate bringing rubbish home with me so i started bringing boxes with me and now i just wash the boxes in the water at the end of a session and they´re ready for the next. Fish on boys!!!!!

Reporting people like that for driving under the influence is a great idea. Some of my favorite marks which I have fished for over 20 years I now have to avoid because of the amount of other anglers present and their rubbish. Its only a matter of time before the no fishing signs appear.Talking to people like that and telling them that littering is not acceptable is a waste of time and dangerous especially if you are on your own. Placing rubbish bins at these spots will only encourage the dumping of household rubbish.I talked to someone in Cork Co Council about illegal rubbish dumping and even though the signs say 1300 euro fine, most get fined about 100 euro and the cost of prosecuting those that do make it to the courts is far more than the fine. The fines are a joke and most county councils don't have the time or resources to deal with it.The fines and penalties for drink driving and driving without tax or insurance are far greater and if these things are reported they are more likely to be dealt with.
