I told a friend ( Dulittle ) that I would try film the fight from a mullet.. As he had asked how long the fight was from the fish I caught the night before and I couldn’t tell him for sure.. so out I went and ended up filming the longest fight I have ever had from a fish,

I had to put the camera down because lots of small Pollock took a fancy to the fly just as it was about to travel over to a large mullet that was ripping away happily at a mackerel that I had hung over the pier wall,

After throwing 2 Pollock back I looked down to see an even bigger mullet barge his way past the others so I targeted him and he blanked the fly a few times but I think he ate it more because it annoyed him then anything else,

There was a lot of boats moving about and I was getting ready to scream at anybody that tried to cruse past me as I knew this was going to be a long fight and definitely the biggest Mullet I’ve ever hooked,

At one stage of the fight I was so into the fish that I hadn’t seen or heard a 38ft fishing boat creep up on me… lucky for me they had seen the fight and kept wide… just as they levelled with me all eyes where on the fish as it came to the net only to get a new lease of life and shoot off like a bullet and muck me around for another while,

The skipper of the boat came over after I had netted the fish and said it would be around 5lb so I checked it and it came in at 5.23lb,

Fair play to the skipper.. He took a picture of me with the fish that I’m not putting up because I hadn’t combed my eyebrows that morning… don’t think he believed me when I told him that the fly that caught the fish had been made from the fur from a fluffy teddy bear my sister got her child a couple of weeks back,

well done on the specimen mullet,a very nice fish,its alot cleaner looking that the one`s i`ve been catching but then again im fishing near a sewer :roll:
im dying to get one on the fly rod this year :(

A 5lb+ mullet, does it get much better than that :?: 8) 8) 8)

I whould say if you got a mullet on the fly rod once then you wouldnt bother using any other rod for them in the future.. i know i wont even try for them unless its on the fly,

i must wish you the best of luck when you go after them they fight like crazy on the fly,

i had one on the fly last year thats why im so keen to get another,but the rod i use for float fishing for mullet is as soft as a fly rod and the fight is fantastic :)
since you posted this i have managed to get another one on the fly,its all in my latest post :D
