East Cork rock mark - 22nd July 2008

Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:21 pm

People: Me

Duration: 9.00 - 11.50 pm

Tide: 9.00 pm

Weather: Calm, clear, warm

Bait: Frozen black lug, razor

Rigs: Two hook (sze 1/0 and 1) flappers, 3/0 pennel, plugs

Results: 4 dogfish, 1 shore rockling

Report: I tried a new rock mark - I had briefly fished it using lures once last year shortly after I took up fishing without success but decided to give it a try as the weather was calm and I though it might be worth trying some plugs as well as bait fishing.

Caught three dogfish on the two hook flappers before dusk. After dark I got a double - a dogfish and a very small shore rockling.

No bites on the plugs.

As I was packing up - there seemed to be small bites on the last rod - I started to retrieve but it seems to be a dead weight - no fight, so I assumed it was a ball of weed but it turned out to be a fairly large spider crab that had got tangled up in the trace.

I forgot to bring the camera so just got a couple of photos with the phone before it got too dark.

Thanks guys,
It was a good discovery - I just wanted to try a different mark that was reasonably close to home. It looks a good mark for calm conditions - might give it another go over the weekend.
