Report: with work commitments in the way the open was out of the question however i would not let it ruin my weekend fishing, originally intending to hit bray head to investigate if hounds, ray and huss could be gotten off it, we decided it would best be avoided due to adverse weather conditions. steep climbs down rock and grassy ledges in the wet and wind with beta boxes and rod bags didn't seem to be the best option, plus the swell didn't look inviting as it crashed on the rocks. a cod session seemed to be in order however it was not winter yet, though seemed like it in the outside, a few recalculations later and we where off to a mark i found a few months ago for bass. when we arrived a lovely surf was rolling in, screaming bass and flats. crabs peeled and whipped onto inviting sakuma 4/0's just inside the bar was the order of the day for me, the two other lads did the same but also had another rod out for flats.Brian's first cast with his new rod landed the first bass of the day and his first ever, around 35cm, dennis and fintan where fishing another mark nearby with one bass to show and a whole lot of weed, one call and they where up to us, first cast for fintan saw a nice bite but with the fish failed to hook up, soon afterward dennis brought the second bass in , 5lbs on the dot, a few more fish followed thanks to dennis with a little help from fintan  it was clear the bass where coming form a deeper channel way to the left of me so being the young cheeky b****d i am i parked my gear right next to dennis and sure enough got my first bass of the day, around 3 and a half pounds, decided to take it home as it was deeply hooked. first one ive ever knocked on the head so im interested to see how they taste. the two lads left after cleaning the place out so i moved back up to my original spot, on the way up brian had just lost a smaller fish in the surf and on the next cast got slack lined. fishing over it wasnt a bad night at all, still bemused on how few flats there on that beach, 1 turbot in 6 sessions  the lads have a few pics, so theyl post them up later

Earlier in the day, I was lamenting the fact I couldn't fish the Open myself. As time passed and the weather turned bad, I was happy to be indoors. If the weather in the East was anything like it was in the West (thunderstorms, galeforce winds, torrential rain) all I can say is fair play to ye for venturing out, and catching fish!
Well done  .
(Can't wait to see how the Open went...)

good to catch the bass and finally get the monkey off me back
can go down to clare fishing now and just see what turns up
lovely location - was screaming flats in the shallower section - very strange how they were all quiet - rag completely untouched for the night - as were the sandeels
pity mark not getting a fish after all his efforts - but i suppose he has had a great run of fish over the last 2 months - he was due a blank!!!
i was trying to impress on him that this was west coast bass fishing he was experiencing :P
good to put a few faces to names and to christen the new rod in style
pity about the dropped fish - ill put it down to sand in my eye (mainly reel!!! )
