People: Me and Codswollop

Duration: 18:00 until 23:59

Tide: High at approximately 23:45

Weather: Moderate westerly. Dry. Mild.

Bait: Fresh peeler

Rigs: single hook pulley with size 3/0 hook. 5 oz. weight.

Results: 1 common smoothhound, 1 starry smoothhound and numerous dogfish.




Report: At last we both hooked our first decent smoothhounds. Both fish weighed 6lb. The common was taken in daylight near low tide. The starry was taken at dusk closer to high tide. Delighted!!

The best of luck Samo.

In relation to the fight - I thought it would have been a bit better. However it was a bit breezy and there were some fairly significant waves breaking against the shore. We also had relatively heavy tackle. All of these things I believe effect the quality of the scrap in some small way.

It was still a massive thrill grabbing the fish by the tail as it makes a surge under the surf towards you!

Come on JD, even the small ones let you know they are there, I love the feel of a hound on the other end. I fished on Monday in windy conditions with 6 oz grappler and they still put up a good fight.
