cappa 18-june (another first for this mark)

Was over in Clare for a couple of days and fancied a bit of pollocking but my usual S.Clare marks were too dangerous, tried another more sheltered cove but blanked there. In order to save a blank day I headed to The cliffs outside Kilkee for a few dead cert macks and wasn't let down. When I filled my order book for friends and neighbours (10 macks in six casts) I decided to bottom fish, so as I could hang around a bit more. I had to borrow a knife as I was bladeless and so I chopped up a couple of macks to stay stocked as the guy with the knife was leaving. In no time I had lost the two rigs I had in my pocket but with another chopped up mack I headed to Cappa to get use out of him. Got there at high tide chucked a lunk of mack on a 2/0 and Bam my first bass (1.5lb and a couple of inches over the foot at a guess). I haven't really fished much for bass as I feel rather clueless and apart from nearly landing one hooked on a flying C on Spanish Pt my few bass outings have been fruitless. Now if I can catch them by accident at a mark not renounced for the species surely I can catch them on purpose at a bass mark! So I will be giving it a bit of attention this year.

He was tricky to unhook and the fins and gill plates are a lot sharper than the ones farmed in Greece, safe to say if there was anyone else on the pier they would have had a laugh watching me getting the fish back to sea

I also picked up a small whiting with the bait, numerous Pollock (1lb and under) and a small coalfish spinning with size 12 sabiki lures.

thanks, I will put the picture up soon, to keep me focused on repeating the job and get me out fishing on the east coast. I am clueless of the area but you seem to be having a ball out in the Bray area. The problem is I get too cosy in the evenings :?
