Report:Met up with Mark (Shamoo0804) at Sandymount to dig some lug and afterwards we went to a mark in Killiney.Wasnt too long of a walk to the mark from the car but a long way down  . In this case what goes down must come back up again and i learned an important lesson,,,,TRAVEL LIGHT TO THESE ROCK MARKS. Thank God I dont smoke  ,,,,as it was I could have done with some oxygen on the way back up. In this case the effort was well worth it, as the view was fantastic,,,and i'm not talking about the naked swimmers :? ,,,,,i've seen more meat on a butchers apron  .
This type of fishing is new to me, and Mark showed me how to set up a float rig.In this rig, the float slides between 2 stopknots, with a small weight under it. Attached to this is a hook on a lighter snood line to minimise tackle losses . Luckily you dont have to cast far and youre into fish. It wasnt long before I saw the float disappear and i struck into a fish. I missed a fair few bites but eventually caught a Ballan Wrasse. I thought it was a beautiful fish, never having seen one before and was delighted with the new species  . There again , i like the doggies as well !!. I hooked into about six or seven fish but only caught two,not that i'm complaining   . They were certainly all i'd heard of as i reeled them in, good fighting fish. Took a photo ,then put them back on a submerged ledge, where i could watch them recover and swim away. All in all, a great way to spend a few hours. We both caught 2 ballan and as we were tired (from digging) and hungry we called it a day and made our way back up the cliff (not as bad as it sounds  ). Nice to meet Mark from the site and i can add this mark to my list (had been trying to find this one for a while).

Glad you caught what we went for.

Congrat's on your first (of many) wrasse :D

You now see what I mean about it being somewhat frustrating with all the missed bites and lost fish

We'll hit that spot again sometime soon hey, just need lots of rag next time

Congrats on your first ballans , my favourite fighting fish. Plenty of bigger ones around i would be glad to fish with ya anytime for them , their the best fish to catch on light tackle. When fishing with the float reduce your hook size and youll get better hook ups , smaller hooks are not suitable any other method as wrasse tend to engulf the bait but with the float you see the bites and generally get a mouth hook up. Congrats again
