Report:I'll keep this report brief, as I'm just about ready for bed after an early start to pick up the bait this morning.
Had the session planned early in the week, and was eagerly anticipating adding to the species list, smuts and ray.....
great
In the car on the way down, eric had been bold enough to
promise us ray and smuts, so my hopes were high (I didnt tell eric he was gonna be walking home if we didnt catch 'em  )
Eyesreilly was first to catch with a small whiting, quickly followed by a dog, eric was next then with a small dab.
It was gonna be one of those nights for me I thought  .
I was finally of the mark after around an hour with a small dab, then a couple of whiting.
We were all fishing a rod at distance and one close in.
We had seen fish jumping out in front of us quite regularly, but couldnt see if they were Bass, Sea Trout, Macks or Herring, nice to see all the same.
The action was quite regular all evening, with the odd quiet spell, but you know how it goes sometimes,,,,,no bites for 1/2 an hour, then bites on both rods at the same time
Eric was the first to catch a target species, with his smut, around the size of a doggie.
We all seemed to be missing a few bites here and there.
I had noticed a few very slight bites on my distance rod, and when reeling in it felt like a double doggie in terms of its weight, then it started to give a good pull and ran off to my right, managed beach him, and was well chuffed to see my
first ever thornie. I've only been fishing since March this year, so I'm real happy to have caught a ray so soon. Eric says it was around the 3 - 3 1/2 lb mark.
I rebaited that rod and cast out, then though it was time to reel in the rod that was fished close in. I hadnt really seen a bite, but thought it was time to change the bait.
I was delighted to see a smut on the end, a starry,
he was an absolute cracker, but with conservation in mind, I wasnt gonna keep him to claim the record
Both of the smuts took rag, and the ray was caught on peeler.
The dogs, whiting and dabs didnt seem to be fussy about the bait.
So all in all, not a bad session, we got our target fish, I'm gutted for eyesreilly, would have been great for him to get a ray or smut, but I dare say he'll have his day soon.
(I did take him to a mark yesterday where he got his first ever wrasse, so he's had a good week anyway  )
Thanks to eric and eyesreilly for the company.
Thanks to eyesreilly for the help in digging the lug yesterday, and thanks to eric for the heads up on the mark.
The lads I'm sure will add their bit to the report.
