meself and hobbit decided to give Formby beach a little look today with the westerleys blowing we expected a decent surf, and on arrival we weren,t disapointed,it looked spot on for the silvers, only thing that made us a bit aprehensive was all the agea that has been around, but when we got to the waters edge we couldn,t see any, and none of that smell you get when it,s around.
So first job first we set about pumping the bait and after about an hour we had got enough for a sesh.We noticed somebody else pumping lug and went over for a chat only to find it was our kid (billy-the-lug) so after a quick natter we started fishing.hobbit was first in 3/4hr after low with the first silver of the day, then nothing for a couple of hours,at about mid tide i hit one then hobbit then me then hobbit and it was like that for about 2 hrs and we ended up with 4 each and a flattie to me.
But we must have missed a dozen or so bites each which was a bit annoying but we had a really good day so we weren,t that bothered.

nice fishin dude :) those missed bites, after you have casted let out 6/10 ft. line so that it hangs slack from the rod tip, then watch the line rather than the rod, you shoud see a big improvement in the bites to fish ratio; i.e. give em enough rope to hang themselvs 8)

Just back from a two week holiday in West Cork and Kerry and what do I find ? A joker reporting bass fishing from my native Merseyside ! Lol !
I first fished Freshfield and Formby beaches in the late 70's. It was more a case of putting a rod out whilst I dug black-lug ( the hard way with a spade ! ), but sometimes quite successful.
I organised a few matches with the then, Southport Sea Angling Society. No bass, if I remember correctly, but plenty of eels and the dreaded lesser-weaver !

Indeed. I usually use circle hooks for Bassing, I'll try this to see how it compares.
