Report:
funny days fishing, not really sure whether it was a success or not. had intended to try my first mark fo about 5 hours targeting huss and wrasse, as i had very little mack left in the freezer i was hopeful i could feather some fresh ones. this proved pretty fruitless with only 1 showing and a fe small pollack..while i was feathering i had one of the huss rods out with frozen bait, and because of my lack of concentration i managed to miss about 4 good bits,2 of which were definately huss...i gave up on the feathers and turned my attention to the wrasse. first cast with a juicy peeler resulted in a good bite, i struck and felt sure i had a good wrasse but instead it turned out to be a golden flanked pollack of about3 lbs, soon followed but 3 more to just over 5lbs, unfortunately the wrasse didnt play game. by this time the wind was howling through and making it pretty uncomfortable to fish..

phase 2 was to buy some macks and try for a few thornies. i bought the macks in a supermarket where they looked fresh but hen i went to fillet them they just turned to mush...hardly usable but i had no option. i gave the second mark about 3 hours where i got a doggie every other cast but being honest my heart wasnt really in it, with conditions uncomfortable and rubbish bait i deided to call it a day. as i said funny day, 4 species, 27 fish isnt so bad but didnt get any of the target species...next time i guess...

I fished Bantry Airstrip and Toormore on my recent holiday . Toormore was a disaster compared to my last couple of trips.Only a few pollack saved a blank. No huss.Bantry was better, with plenty of dogs and a couple of thornies.Where did all the mackerel go ? The only place I got a few was Dursey!

I'll write a longer report with a few photos this weekend.

with conditions uncomfortable and rubbish bait

   You can put up with one or the other, but not both in the same session

A good haul of fish, good sized pollock, but a shame about the huss and ray, its not often I read your reports when you have failed with your target species

Lumpy, you seem to quite expert at rock fishing, and I'm hoping to pick your brain.

I have a number of marks on the Beara peninsula I've been fishing since I was a child, but I want to broaden my horizons a bit. They're very good marks, one in particular I have never blanked at in 20 years, and produces pollock up to 8lb.

My main problem at this mark is the very snaggy bottom. I lose a fair amount there as it is, and I want to see what else is there. It looks very congery, so do I just rotten bottom the lead and forget it? Also, do you take them in daylight much or more toward night? Lastly any tips on identifying a mark for huss - do you need sandy patches?

Tks.
