People: myself and shamoo

Duration: 6 - 11

Tide: lw mainly filling at the end

Weather: spitting rain first hour then brightness and actually quiet fine

Bait: frozen mac, launce, squid, bad rag

Rigs: floats, ledgers, flappers

Results: goldshinny & ballan wrasse, pollack, dogs, whiting.

Report: with bait left over from wicklow it was down to DL to finish it off.

the wrasse were onto the worm instantly but the hook ups few and far between - downsized the hooks but by 30mins 1 wrasse (to mark) and the bites died off

they were picking away but not hooking but had lost interest - moved down the pier a bit - got them back on - could clearly see them taking it - 4 goldshinnys about the hook!

then every so often a larger ballan would attack it from them

got 2 gold shinnnys out and then eventually got the ballan

the bites were continuous but very few hook ups

mark got a good dog on the other rod and a whiting

i persisted at the wrasse - changed hooks size 4s size 6s - small fish - but none even fouling themselves with constant bites for well over an hour and a half

could not hook them - so wily

changed to the ledgers and got a pollack straight off - then started getting loads of whiting

mark got another dog and whiting

an old gull ran into his rod for one of the dead whiting - 2 seconds later another gull completed the job!!

then the playful seals turned up!!!

im sure some of the more sluggish whiting returnees were eaten

the fishing died off unsurprisingly

then it came back on - more whiting

seals returned - you get the picture

decided to leave it round 11

anyway another satisfactory session - into the double figures again -and some interesting fishing

happy days 8)

With some 25 + fish between us, it was a good, if somewhat frustrating session, with missed bites a plenty, **smaller hooks next time**, especially given the poor bait.

Brian had the edge with the wrasse(just) due to his superman like eyesight,,,,,he was able to target individual fish, where as I just had to drop my bait in hope  Fair play Brian, it was great craic watching you hunting down the fish, I'd say you'd be a dab hand at the spear fishing  I think I just edged it on the fish count though, not that we were fishing competetively.

I'm sure you enjoyed fishing a new mark

I must say, the first dog I got didnt half have some fight in him, and a huge belly (must be easy pickings for his dinner around that area),,,,we had to double check he wasnt a stray Huss :?

Weather turned out great :D , tide took an age to start filling, but all in all very enjoyable

Hi lads, sounds like a great session, fair play :D I fish Dun Laoghaire a fair bit. Which spot were you on if you don't mind me asking. Heading out this weekend for some peace and quiet (and hopefully some fish!)

Afternoon

Sounds like you had a good session. I tried to get out of Bulloch in my boat yesterday afternoon, but it was far too rough, so I ended up giving it a miss. Haven't fished DL for a while now so maybe its time to give it a whirl.

Hi Adam,

We actually fished inside the (east) pier wall, just on the 2nd elbow, by the steps down into the harbour.

We had been targeting wrasse right down by our feet. I fished the same spot on monday with eric, we had an hour or so to kill as we waited for our boat to be ready down at bulloch harbour.

Here's the report from last monday, picked up one nice Ballan, plenty of small ones

Hey Matt,

Must say the sea didnt look too rough around D.L, but having said that we didnt get down to the harbour until 5.30-6pm ish and the weather was clearing nicely,,,maybe it had died down by then :?:

It had prolly calmed down alot by then, I got to the harbour at about 1330, and the swell was brutal. I should have packed a couple of beachcasters into the car as well, at least I could have wet a line

dead easy spot to fish adam, how i spent my early days fishing with the granddad , the wrasse are about a foot out or so, use tiny hooks, coarse fishing stuff and really small bits of worms
