Baile na h-Abhann Co na Gaillimhe, 31st may

Wed Jun 04, 2008 2:29 pm

People:me and fmcd

Duration: 3 hours 2-5

Tide: on the ebb

Weather: glorious

Bait: mack sandeel mussel all frozen

Rigs: rotten bottom, 3 hook flappers, single pats

Results: nothing

Report: headed out with high hopes of a few wrasse after seeing jacks report

the pier itself had a stench about it - a ten pound hush just left to rot on it - few spiders left dead about the place as well - not good :(

had one rod on the float, another for a bit of distance and fmcd was spinning like hell

first distance cast attempt never moved the bail arm - cracked off - great start - indicator of the murphys law day i was about to have

losing lures in the weed - dropping my line to avoid a novice boatman who decided to start up the engine again right beside me and take most my line and the rigs

basically a disaster - makes you appreciate those pesky dogs and whiting when you get them

That was a fair bit of misfortune, Brian.

I know a good deep water mark (even at low tide) near Furbo that holds big wrasse (and pollack!). If you want to try it sometime, let me know. Excellent fun on light gear, lobbing out a few feet...

It does tend to attract a few local mack bashers this time of year, so would need to time it right  .

Sorry about that Brian it can be a bit hit and miss there. The fishermen there are fairly messy guys rope and rubbish all over the place. I have seen loads of dogfish just left on the pier a sorry sight.

I would never consider Baile na habhainn a great spot for fishing , the smell has always been there, rotting seaweed etc winter & summer methene go leor.

There are three marks worth trying one to the east and 2 to the west, monster wrasse :D

Brian try Cuan na Scailpe, i will say no more!
