Duration:20.00 - 01.30.
Tide:in and out.
Weather: fantastic, had shorts and t-shirt on until 11.30pm.
Bait: Feathers, rag, mack, squid, sandeel.
Rigs: Pulley, 3 hook flapper.
Results: 4 macks, 2 Launce, 2 Dabs, 4 Whiting, 15 Dogs.
Report: It was too nice an evening to be sat at home watching tv, so headed down to my favourite greystones spot. On arrival, it wasnt just me who thought it was too nice to sit indoors. The rocks by the harbour were quite busy as were the steps to the right of the small bay.
I quickly set up a pulley rig on my beachcaster and sent it out as far as I could cast. There was a guy fishing to my left who seemed to be getting a few macks, so I strolled over to say hello.
He was a really nice guy and had caught a few macks, too many Launce to count, but very suprisingly 2 small gurnards (on feathers  ), now I'm not too experienced with this sea fishing lark, but it is usual to catch gurnards on feathers from the shore :?: :?: I havent even heard of reports of gurnards being caught here before :!: :!:
Anyway, I told him I didnt have any feathers with me but was gonna throw a spinner on to try for a few macks, as I only had frozen ones for bait. He duly gave me a set of his feathers- very nice of him :D
I threw the feathers in a few times without luck, but had noticed a bite on my bait rod, reeled in to find a doggie, much to the delight of some of the young kids sat behind me watching.
Not a lot happened then for the next few hours, got a few launce on the feathers, missed a few macks with them dropping off down in front of me and eventually caught a few macks aswell, all the while my bait rod had been tapping away - but I was to find this was just weed and decided to leave the bait rod out of the water until the light had faded.
Had some good banter with the guy next to me, he had a few more macks aswell, and we saw a good few jumping out of the water (some as high as 2 ft), mainly at distance though.
So I had had so far, 1 doggie, 4 macks and 2 launce.
As the light faded, so did the crowds and at last time to put the feathers away and get back to the business of bait fishing, it was now around 23.30.
I have caught plenty of decent dabs and flounder from this spot before so hopes were high.
I put the 3 hook flapper out at around 50 yards, put some tension on the line and sat comfortably for a quick ciggie, the one thing with all that feathering, it keeps you too busy to have a fag.
I had only just lit up when the rod tip was bouncing, reeled in to get a double - a doggie and a whiting.
Untangled the mess the doggie had made of my rig, re-baited and cast out again.
The lead had barely hit the bottom before the rod tip was bent round again with another bite - another doggie.
This continued for another hour on every single cast, the bait was not out for longer than 5 minutes before I was getting a bite, and a fish (or 2).
I can now appreciate why people dislike the doggies so much, I was getting sick of untangling the rig, time and time again, in fact I would guess that within my first hour with the 3 hook flapper I only had the bait in the water for around 15 minutes, but had caught 7/8 fish. I didnt even get a chance to put the 2nd rod out :!:
I had a few more dogs, a couple of dabs and a few more whiting in the 2nd hour, but by now my patience had gone, I was sick of the sight of the dogs and never had I been so happy to see a 15cm dab or whiting
It was time to pack up and head home, I had an early start as I was taking a pal to the airport at 6am.
I was packing away my gear, when all of a sudden I heard a loud screech of tyres, and then a deafening bang - I hope that wasnt my car was my first though, I scrambled up the rocks as quick as I could to see an 05D reg black hatchback racing away, and my own car 12 feet from where I had parked it, and stuck in the middle of the road
The F****R had smashed into the back of my car and p****d off without stopping, glass and bumper all over the road. There is a pub just round the corner so I presume he/she was bevvied up, hence why they didnt stop
NB Any greystones/wicklow lads hear on the grapevine who it may have been, let me know as there will be a good reward in it for you, and needless to say a personal visit for him
I wouldnt have minded too much, but it wasnt even my car, I had lent my car to a pal of mine, so had borrowed this one from another mate
I would say about €1000 worth of damage :x , so probably the most expensive nights fishing I will ever do :!:

I don't know where your car was parked, but I believe there are some video cameras up about that way.
Might be worth looking into.
