East Cork Deja Vu - 28th May 2008

Thu May 29, 2008 10:06 am

People: Me

Duration: 9.30 pm to 2.00 am

Tide: HW at 00.30 am

Weather: Very light southerly (?) wind, very mild, clear night

Bait: Lug, sandeel, squid, mackerel

Rigs: size 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0 two and three hook flappers

Results: 2 dogfish and one shore rockling

Report: I had some bait left over from Tuesday night so I decided to revisit the new mark I fished on Tuesday.

I got there just a the light was beginning to fade. Set up three rods, one at distance, the other at moderate distance and the other in close.

The first bites occurred after dark, but missed them. Then got a dogfish. I had a couple of more missed bites then another dogfish on the same rod at moderate distance, both taken on lug tipped with a slice of sandeel on the size 1 two hook flapper. I had a few more missed bites after that - probably dogfish again.

Then there was a small knock on the rod at distance - a shore rockling - about 33 cm.

The tide was starting to drop after that and there were no more bites - although something was stealing my bait

So I had a strong feeling of Deja Vu - exactly the same result as the previous night, two dogs on one rod and then a rocking on the rod cast out to distance. Caught on the same bait and with the same hook size and rigs. At least the rocking was bigger so I know it was not the same one as last night.
