Tide:13
Weather:Showers at first, clearing later with s/e winds
Bait:crab mostly
Rigs:various
Results: 35 fish ( 33 flounder + 2 bass - bass were released )
Report:Raining from the check in - not a good sign, but seeing as on the slob bank you are really only trying for flounder at this time of year it didnt seem to matter much. The s/e winds were pushing the tide into the bank so it might have compensated for the rain. After a couple of casts there were 2 flounders returned of mid 30cm's, i however was on a stretch of the bank that is either hit or miss, and today it looked like the latter so i decided to collect the pegs and see what was being caught. The 3 pegs to my left were blank when i left and blank 15 mins later when i returned. Not looking too good for my area, but there were fish being caught at the start and end of the bank with Dr seafish and clinton rackman pulling in a double flounder (jammy gits).
After seeing dr. seafish bring in a double at the next peg, mick maher became somewhat discouraged and decided to go for a walk. 20 mins later he returned and pulled in a treble! (jammy git). This seemed to encourage mick to carry on fishing for some reason. And it worked out well for him as later on he pulled in a double followed by a single winning the comp with 6 fish and 241 points.
For me all the day went like this - about the half way point i picked up a flounder of 35cm and was eagerly awaiting my next bite - it never happened. For the rest of the comp my baits were only touched by crabs.
Overall 10 of the 13 had fish with the top 3 catching 6 each and the comp being won by only 1 point!, one of the guys who blanked did manage to catch a ball of weed and traces with about €10 worth of leads mixed in - so it wasn't a total loss for him.
Overall -
1st Mick Maher 241pts, 2nd Ken Hogan 240, Clinton Rackman 233pts, 4th Jamie Santry 172pts, 5th James Kiniry 113pts, 6th Alistair Cope 112pts, 7th Dr. Seafish 106pts, 8th,Cliff Gallogley 70pts, 9th Pierre Cope 48pts, 10th Tom Maher 40pts.

I have attached 2 pics, a double of flounder 30 & 31cm and single 31cm. Most of the flounder caught were decent enough but not to many big fish, although I think 2 were 41cm. Typical sizes for Youghal. I must do more flounder walks as it certainly worked for Mick. Its never good when the guy in the peg beside you wins, but that last couple of hours were very quite as most of the fish seemed to have moved up river.
