People:Myself

Duration: 19:30-21:30

Tide:Low

Weather:East 3-5

Bait:Mackerel

Rigs:Two hook Paternoster

Results: 1 small Thornback Ray, I Turbot

Report: Had a quick session on the pier before the mackerel hunters arrived. Turbot was about 35cm and the thornback was around 40-45cm. Wind was strong from the east blowing right into my face, difficult to pick up on the bites. I'm sure there would have been more if i had been willing to stay a while longer but the mackerel were showing and there was a little too much excitement for my liking, athletic casting of shrimpers and all that type of thing.

good result in such a short space of time fella. well done. lenean pier has to be one of my favourite locations because of the amazing backdrop and scenery surrounding it.

Aye, it is a good location alright and the scenery is excellent, pity that it gets so crowded when the mackerel are around, but i suppose night fishing during the summertime would be ok. Anyone ever caught any large turbot from this pier?

i think there was a fella on this who caught a belter of a turbot this time last year. I heard the turbot love the sandeels

hi ciaran nice result for a short session, and at LW too. have found this pier to fish better on a rising to high tide, have got quite a few turbot off there this year, the best being well over a pound weight, two years ago i got a cracker off the beach across from the pier, it was around 2 1/2lb got him on mac: and squid.

Sick of your Warrior already  ? Fished it last week there with Ivory but both of us blanked with the same wind direction, looks like you did much better.

The pier can be a hotspot some days and completly blank the next, i've fished it on very high springs and blanked in perfect weather conditions etc I would say in a surf there should be good flats on the beach but i havn't got around to exploring it yet, nice to here there are still a few larger sized turbot around, it's also a pity that there are no good launching points for small boats around this area as there is some mighty fishing to be had around there.

hi ciaran, at the far corner of the beach it would be possible to get a boat in, as you said there is some mighty fishing to be had in that bay, there is a few big deep holes out in the bay that we used to fish, with Pollock into the double figures....

There's a wee slipway up at Dunaff head you could use. I'll hopefully be launching from there myself this summer now too - I hear there are a few tope hotspots especially around Dunaff.
