Report:
Following a busy week, with the lovely weather on Friday, I took a quick spin to the usual spot with the intention of having a spin in the fading light for a bass. It can produce well to this technique when its flat. 30-40 minutes of fruitless flogging saw nothing and with this spinning lark being a little too much like work but not wanting to return home right away, I popped back to the car to see if there was anything remotely resembling bait. Lo and behold, 2 trays of semi liquid rag and some rancid razor left in the back of the jeep since the boat comp on monday (pooo!)
I quickly set up 2 rods and baited up a 3 hook flapper (poured the rag on more like), tossed it out about 15 yards or so and belted a razor filled Pulley rig as far as possible. With darkness approaching fast, the rod fished in short gave a little twitch and a pair of nice flounder made their way onto the sand. A nice surprise given the crap bait! Rod at range yielded a doggie shortly after. Phanover and his buddy Steve popped down to say hello on their return from a nearby mark and kindly lent me a headlight (mine was doing a great job on the kitchen table) Despite some urges from myself to have a throw ( I was on 3 fish from 2 casts ) they headed off. They werent gone 5 minutes when I saw another twitch on the liquid rag in close, I tightened up and lifted in for all hell to break loose! This was no turbo charged flounder as a lovely Bass of about 4lbs led me a merry dance almost underneath the rod tip before being unceremoniously beached on the sand. This fish, with the rig only barely tossed out on the dropping tide had hit my tiny size 6 in literally inches of water.
It wasnt going to get any better than that and with home calling, I packed up and headed off, suitably refreshed after a short sharp session. Cheers to Steve for the headlamp loan again.
