St. Mullens 11/5/2008

Mon May 12, 2008 10:39 am

People: Myself

Duration: End of the Man Utd. Match until dusk

Tide: Low to Rising

Weather: Very sunny and warm.

Bait: Lures

Results: A couple of shad

Report: Very quiet fishing, very little seemed to be moving in the river and didn't see much caught by other people either. One specimen fish of 2lb 9ish and one about 2lbs. Unfortunately the specimen wouldn't go back so he'll be winging his way in the post later today. Shame that the fish needs to be send up in order to make a claim, especially given that they are quite uncommon in Ireland.

Incidentally does anyone know where I can come upon a certified scales in the Tallaght region, or is it just a matter of calling into a random shop and hope they don't laugh me out of the place?

Also met JD and had a good chatter about all things fishing, did you catch any more in the end??

I had just the one. I had a few takes and follows, but I had to push on to Dublin before high water. Good to meet you, and Ross (Bill Ryan) too.

Hi Viper,

Nice fish there. To get a certified scales you need to send the scales away to be certified. Chat to your local tackle shop and they will reccommend a decent scales that will pass certification. The only problem is you need to certify it every year. No big deal thoug as it is a free service and you'll have it back in two weeks.

The digital scales seem to have come on quite a bit and now a lot of them seem to be passing certification.

jd - nice to meet you too.
I fished till 9 pm on 11th and had two shad on blue/silver taz.
L.W. about 7 p.m.
Camped overnight and fished from 7 a.m. to 9.30 a.m on 12th. and myself and brother Mike had 7 shad each landed and possibly another 7 each 'disengaged' early in the fight!
Best shad about 2.25 lbs.
All shad were returned alive.
All on Taz blue/silver, blue/pink.
Once the river rose with the tide fishing went quiet.
The big ones should run next week with the Spring Tides. Get there early - 5.30am!
