People:Me and Buddy
Duration:14:00-22:30
Tide:hw@ 17:00ish
Weather: Fine, On shore wind
Bait: Lug, Rag, Frozen Crab
Rigs:Buddy - 2hook flapper flattie rig, Me - Clip down pennell, Pulley Rig
Results: 1 Bass approx 4lbs
Report: Got to White Bay to find a heavy surf coming in. Went straight to the far right corner of the beach to start fishing. Hadnt been there ten minutes when my buddys rod got a knock that looked like a bass bite an a few secs later the rod bent over in his hand and he struck into a lovely 4lb fish - returned alive - I hadnt even baited my rig!!! I was standing there thinking that we were in for a decent session between that afternoon and the coming nite tide but it wasnt to be. We fished white bay for another two hours of the coming tide and then began to try beaches further along, Balliinwilling, garryvoe etc in search of flatties while we waited for the tide to turn and it to get a little darker. All other beaches besides White Bay were unfishable really due to the amount of weed. Eventually we decided to make our way back to White Bay and try and make the most of the incoming tide but it didnt turn up anything. I think the quality of the crab had a lot to do with the results but a bad craftsman always blames his tools an all that so..... i notice Cortaz blanked the weekend aswell and it was reading his running commentary of the moon phases and subsequent rising catch levels that had me convinced we were on for good fishing this weekend, I dont feel to bad cos the dude seems to know his stuff and also blanked, but unfortunately it didnt happen. Needless to say the session was still enjoyable an we enjoyed the bit of bank holiday weekend sunshine even though the fishing never got going!! Have pic of the bass to upload if someone can let me know how to upload to the site :D

Nice going on the bass...think I saw you from a distance, I'm nearly sure I saw the flash of silver from where I was...Had 1 about the same size myself and lost 1 more in the weed which was fairly heavy where I was. Also had a flounder but the bites dried up after 3.30 when the lads on jetski's arrived

Dont rely to much on crab here, lug and sandeel big bait cocktail works well.

I saw you too Rory, so you got one too! The lads on the jet skis did kind of finish it there i think.By the time they arrived the tide had moved us to the left a bit an we were more or less fishing the centre of the beach so I tried casting to the far right and close into the rocks to see if the fish had moved to the other side of the beach but there was nothing happening there thats the main reason we moved. Pity cos when i saw the gulls dropping into the water i thought the fishing was on there!! Thats normally the case with that place!. Ill say hi the next time i see ya down there 8)
Thanks for the advice on the baits Billy, will change to those cocktails next time. Ive had good success in the past down there with rag and lug cocktails and also crab on its own but the frozen crab we were using werent up to much. The guy that sold them as peelers hadnt brought them on at all so they werent lasting long in the water.Need a new supplier!!!!!!!!!! Think you could be right with the sandeel and lug, ive actuallly hooked sandeels through the side when i have been reeling in down there - more than once! Is there a bank of them out there or somehing? Is that what the gulls are diving for??
The walk is a KILLER alright Shane, especially at the end of a long session down there, last day there was a car practically down to the sand there though. It seems you can drive down most of the way!! I will be trying it out next time anyway cos that hike back up is the reason i dont fish the place more, despite the fact that I have rarely blanked down there and have had some excellent evening sessions there!!!

Nice one lads. Haven't fished off there in ages. I must have seen you too - was passing in an Orkney longliner about 3ish I suppose, but I was a bit offshore, didn't have a great day's fishing either and the swell made my buddy feel sick...
