People: Just me
Duration: 19.30 - 22.45
Tide: HW approx 23.00
Weather: Slight breeze, dry, cool
Bait: Fresh mack, fresh lug, (re)frozen lug, fresh mussel
Rigs: 3 hook flapper, one hook pulley
Results: 4 dabs, 4 flounder (new species for me), 2 doggie's
Report: After spending an hour or so digging some lug and collecting some mussels at Monkstown, I headed down to my mark in eager anticipation after not throwing a line in last weekend (spent most of last weekend painting at home :( )
Put the 3 hooker out first, baited with frozen lug and tipped with mack, then put the pulley out with a nice juicy fresh lug(huge :!: ).
Not a bite on the first 2 casts with the 3 hooker, but then the tip started knocking on the third cast - a double of dabs. Baited up again and cast back into the same spot, 15 mins later a double of flounder (new species, so well chuffed :D ). Baited up again, cast into same spot - a triple (2 dabs 1 flounder)
Whilst I was kept busy with the 3 hook flapper, the pulley rig was coming back with the bait stripped but no bites :? - Maybe it was crabs
I tried using bait elastic but the hook was still coming back bare - and no bites - All that effort digging fresh lug, and what for
Tried some mussel on the pulley, that didnt work either.
Tide was coming in now with waves splashing upto where I was fishing from, so common sense said I had to move. I reeled in after a couple more bites and had a flounder and doggie double :)
Moved to a spot higher up the rocks and felt quite dissapointed I had to move as the fish were coming thick and fast, it was around 22.00 when I moved.
Cast out both rods again, no bites on either rod. Put on bigger baits on the 3 hook flapper thinking it might create a bigger scent trail, it worked to some degree, I had another doggie, but the bites had become slow so packed up and set off home.
All in all not a bad session really, but strange there was no Whiting, and strange how the frozen lug out fished the fresh lug (something to do with the hook size and ratio of 3 hook to 1 hook rig maybe :?:

Thanks wayne,
I'm getting them slowly but surely  , thought I had had a flounder or 2 before but they were dabs with some odd colouration  - I believe the trick with flounder is to run your finger along the back(tail to head) and they should only be rough to touch down the spine, whereas the dabs are rough everywhere.
Rodger,
Where were you fishing last night? Sorry to hear it was poor fishing, but thats sometimes the way it goes
Forgot to mention, The backwind on my main reel broke last night, thats the 2nd time since I bought it in Feb :!: :?: In fairness to the shop, the first time it happened they had replaced the reel with a new one, but it happened on a friday evening last time aswell and ruined a weekends fishing for me, looks like its a case of Deja Vue :x :x :x
Its a Zebco Topic 460 FD, I kinda presume it may well be a design fault with this particular reel. I know its not the most expensive make/model of reel (and I know you get what you payfor) but surely I should expect to get more than 2 months out of a reel
I'm gonna put up a post on the tackle review section to see if there is any feedback about the reel before I head down to the shop again, I mi9ght well be best getting a refund and buying a good quality 2nd hand FS reel instead

Well done shamoo, great result, It was a toss up between bray and greystones for me last night and it looks like i made the wrong choice, were you on the rocks near the harbour hoarding?

Hi eyes, bad luck there mate, did you not have much success :?:
Your right I was on the rocks there, I favour getting as close as possible to the rails on the left they have put up by the harbour wall. I cast the 3 hooker out to the left and thats where I had the best results, but the waves/tide beat me soon after and I had to move over to the right, nearer the small cove/beach, only had one dog after I moved :(
Wayne, yeh I shall keep an eye on the forsale section alright, gonna head up to the shop I bought the reel at and see what they say  I should be able to make it out on monday with you and eric, I'll confirm tomorrow.
