bray harbour 30th april 08

Wed Apr 30, 2008 12:45 am

People:me

Duration:6.30-9pm

Tide:high

Weather:stiff northerly breeze

Bait:leftover rag and mushy mack

Rigs:3 hook flapper

Results:1 flounder

Report:Went to Bray Harbour to use up bait left over from the weekend. Sea was very choppy with waves washing over the wall on occasion. I set up and cast out into the wind. I was able to shelter behind my car when the big sprays came over the wall but some others who were more exposed had to give up after a while . While baiting up a wave got me good all down one side, a lesson for me to wear waterproofs in future in these conditions   . I decided to call it a night but luckily there was a flounder on when I reeled in, which saved the blank

Good on ya for sticking it out. It looks cold - I can image that it was not too comfortable in a cold northerly wind.

Well done on the flounder at the end

Thanks Rockhunter, theres a bit of a low wall there and I had the car to lean on but it was uncomfortable  . The thoughts of the blank kept me there. I've a bit of a distance to travel so I tend to stick it out a bit longer than is good for me  Sure what else would I be doing  (watching Man Utd beat Barcelona   )

that flounder would have made a good bait cut in half and put on a 5/0 hook  and lobbed out off the big harbour wall

Welldone eyes

U should never be blanking at Bray Harbour no matter how bad the old mack is or the weather for that matter, but nice to see a flounder rather than the endless whiting and dabs that place throws up, is that a new species for you :?: 8)

I know what you mean about the trip down there (I travel from Blanch myself)and feeling like ya gotta stay a while to make it worthwhile.

 Oh BTW its recommended to have the waterproofs in the car just in case, them waves dont half crash over the pier wall there

I though in your first picture they must have been huge scissors  , but nice to see the pic with your hand put a bit of perspective on the size of the fish :D

Good luck over the weekend....An extra day of work...,Whoopie
