Tide:hw@ 1157(3.3m)

Weather:heavy hail showers, strong-fresh east wind, swung north

Bait:bread fly

Rigs:

Results:1 4lb mullet (approx)

had hoped to try my usual spot but the e/ne wind was blowing into the bay causing a small surf so a change of plan was called for. moved to the other side of the bay where there was good shelter from the surrounding hills. had intended trying for a bass along this stretch as it throws up some pretty good fish. on arriving i saw what i thought was a bass in the shallows but when i covered him he flashed and showed to be a mullet. he was accompanied by a few dozen more, all around the 4-5lb mark with a few better fish thrown in.off with the bass leader and on with the mullet..a few pieces of bread had them feeding on the surface but not very confidently...after about 5 mins i made my first cast to a pod of fish taking bread off the surface.after a drift of about 2 minutes one of the smaller ones in the shoal drifted up and sipped down the bread fly. he gave a very spirited fight taking 8-9 minutes to land in the 8wt..the stron run through the bay helped him. a few more fish showed interest in my offerings with one very big fish studying it for about a minute before turning away but with the freshening wind moving more northerly and the surface becoming choppier i decided to call it a day. was nice to christen the ne gt4 8wt, very nice rod i must admit..

p.s the water clarity is unbelievable, even after the se gales we have had lately.. will definately be possible to stalk individual fish when the winds die back..sorry about the quality of the pic. had the camera set on macro by accident
