[b]Weather calm but cold

[b]Bait mac/squid/razor/sandeel

[b]Rigs 1 hook pulley rigs 2 hook flapper

[b]Results !!!BLANK!!!

[b]Report we headed down to malin head Pier for some night fishing, fished the dropping tide and well into the flood, fished one rod well out and the other close in, the son did the same. we also baited up a small sturdy rod with a mackerel head, and fished in tight to the Pier for a chance of a conger. NOTHING!!! not a touch, conditions were perfect but not a thing ( bar a couple of crabs ) at daylight i moved over to the rocks behind the pier, again sod all. with the water conditions being so good i could not believe there was nothing about, ( we were just flogging a dead horse ) at the end up we just gave up and headed home....

Thats a long old session for a blank, bad luck mate.

I must commend your perseverence though, I'd have packed up and been home long before sunrise myself :(

Better luck next time

The only baits I ever find that work at Malin Head are Crab and Rag, have never ever caught anything using Mack or sandeel there.

One evening last summer I landed down and was determined not to use crab, I was all alone on the peir and fished for about 2hours with 2 rods one using Mack, one using s-eel, and caught feck all, not even a bite, eventually I switched to crab, the line was no sooner in the water than I was in to a Coalie of about 2lb, I fished for about another hour and lost count of the number of coalies, pollock and wrasse that I caught.
One other night I was there and there was a few lads all using crab. They were saying that they couldn't believe how quiet it was. I was using Rag, and with-in minutes I was into my first fish, eventually after about an hour of me catching and the rest blanking, I shared out the rag and everyone was catching.
Its a strange place to fish!

know what you mean about the crab PaddyB, i use it off that pier every year with great success, but i have had some very good sized pollock off there with the sandeel. but like you said its a strange place to fish, can be great one day and crap the next, think i just got one of the crap days. :( ah well thats the way fishing is, cant have it good all the time......
