Keel Beach, Achill, Co Mayo 18.4.2008

Mon Apr 21, 2008 1:45 am

People: Myself and Bruce

Duration: 4 hours, 5 pm to 9 pm

Tide: HW at 6:30 pm

Weather: overcast cold NE / E blowing, dropped

Bait: sandeel, mackerel and crab

Rigs: 3 hook flappers, pulleys

Results: nada

Report: ah jaysus I have to stop fishing with Bruce. Eight sessions (not counting the photoshoot with IA) and not a blank amongst them, and now? Two in a row! Only place I reckon we could fish in the NE was Keel down near the end at the Cathedral rocks. Arrived to find it very calm, big swell around 1.5 metres but only inshore. Fished long and short, pulleys and flappers, two rods each and not as much as action from the crabs. Tons of sea birds - auks, razors and grebes, even a northern diver all working the area around us, a few sea trout (small) showed in the surf below us but we got no interest at all, not even when it got dark. Not even a coalie for heavens sake. Incredible, wind in the east, stay home.

Still, beat listening to the Dublin Meath fight - anyone know what the score was in the Calzaghe Hokins match?

Third time lucky, and hopefully the weather will be a little kinder.

Calzaghe on points. Great win for him. He needs a few more fights in the US though to raise his media profile. Anyone that goes 40+ and 0 with megre media interest is doing something wrong. Jaysus he should be knighted by now.

Pity about the blank. Difficult conditions over the weekend.
