People: me, myself and i

Duration: 9pm - 5am

Tide: high to low to rising

Weather: cold but calm

Bait: baby squid, mackeral belly strips and well travelled rag

Rigs: 3 hook flappers and 2 size 1 rockling hook trace

Results: O.M.G.!!! 12 ROCKLING 3 CODLING 4 POLLACK 2 COALFISH 2 WHITING

Report: arrived down at high tide around 9pm in time to watch 3 guys pack up to leave who wished me luck and told me i would need it as fishing was poor. little did they know they hit the dee at the wrong time and left just as i reckoned things would start to pick up....., and boy did they pick up. i spent the best part of the day trying to get my hands on some rag, went through the yello pages calling tackle shops all over the place and ended up driving to larne and stocked up with 3 bags. i knew it would be worth it as rag is working well at the moment at the dee  got set up and baited up 3 rods, cast them out and only had to wait less than 5 mins for the rockling rod to go and i was into a nice wee shore rockling, then bedlham insued as the other 2 rods went at the same time with a pollack on one and another rockling on the other. as for accurately recalling what happened next its all a bit of a blur because the bites were coming thick and fast. rockling after rockling then a pollack and a whiting.it was all a bit hetic for all the right reasons, i even started to get an audience of dog walkers watching as the pandemonium ensued  Then a very timid bite and i was into a wee reef cod. while i was unhooking him the other 2 rods went togeather and one of the dog walkers asked would it be ok if he reeled it in as he had never fished before,so i obliged (its nice to be nice) and he caught his first ever fish, a nice wee rockling.its always good to promote the sport and sucessfully convert the non fishers  by now it was low water and i was into another wee red reef codling and things calmed down a bit. got loads of bites between 2am and 4am all rockling and rounded the session off around 5am as the crabs moved in in force for a bit of smash and grab  . all in all one of the best sessions at the dee since october when me the wee man and his friend caught 47 fish between us. i did'nt catch anything over 1 lb 1/2 but still, what a session!

still a bit away from outfishing junior yet. as he likes to remind me it's the quality of the fish you catch that counts NOT the quantity  he's still on the high of his big codling he caught in march. he now prefers to be called the "codfather" in our house
