Bray Head - 13/04

Duration:1400-1800/3 hours

Tide:Few hours before high

Weather:sunny with rain

Bait:plug and soft plastic

Results:5 pollack,40cm - 47cm




Report:Not hoping for any bass...just decide to give it a go in case we re lucky enuff for some fun with lure....all fish on soft lures-Slug-Go.We miss a few strike as a take on this kind of lure was so subtle...the fish tend to nibble on the lure....not as aggressive as the take on plug or spinner....we just let the nibbling,keep on cranking or just stop and let the lure fall through the water column....just give a light tug to set the hook when the weight of the fish can be felt.

The colar jighead is home made because i never seen any of them manufactured with an off set worm hook so far....for me its critical for my confident to cast them in the kelp.

What is the FS in the picture is it an shimano exage? If so what size is it? How would you rate it? I was looking at them myself for the same type of fishing.

What sort of rod have you paired it up with?

Nice fishing there Joe. My girlfriend picked me up a bunch of those slug-go's when she was over in the states. They look great, can't wait to try them out. Btw are there any relatively easy to access marks on Bray Head or fairly ropey to access?

Yeah its a Shimano exage 4000 FA, it's an good little reel for the price, which is cheap enough I suppose and does the job required,have caught plenty of decent sized fish and have had no problems,there are much better reels out there to be honest but this does the job for me and is my favourite reel.

nice fishing man, blanked there a few weeks ago. have a shimano exage and im just looking for pollock like that to test it proper. was testing it with some lures and a new line a few days ago in a canal and picked up a small jack pike wasn expecting it so it was a nice suprise. i think ill be getting out to bray head some evening soon.

It seems that the fish mostly holding deep and hugging the bottom structure on the spot.Not to say that a shallow diver plug wont work,last year i got hit by fish on shallow diver that keep on stripping my line on the first run and snap it.The ideal place to use plastic or spoon and fish deep.....its just with plastic and lead head....its more cheaper and cost effective in snaggy marks like that....not necessarily u have to use slug-go....others soft plastic will work too i think....berkley grub....etc....that available locally....
We fish the place a few times,some times got lucky and sometimes blank....maybe the regular local guys can advice on the right tides and condition.Other than pollack,Ritchie got a few nice wrasse in 1-3lb size last time using rag.1 of the fish got hit by something during the fight leaving a cut on its back,not sure what it is....seal???
Theres a lots of good and ideal spot along the head...some are accessible but dangerous and some are easily accessible with track and safe....u dont need a beach caster to fish there....a spinning set for light ledgering,float fishing or lure tossing and travel light....cheeerrss...

Just wondering where abouts you were fishing at Bray Head. Did you park at the amusements and walk up??

Yes,we park at the amusement park and hike up for about 20 min.If u observe carefully theres a few track goin down to the water/rock.One of them near to the old tunnel.
