GBSAC competition, Lettergesh, Co. Galway 06/04/08

Sun Apr 06, 2008 10:45 pm

People: me + 20 others

Duration: 11:00 - 16:00

Tide: turned from LW about 2.30-3

Weather: hailstones, sleet, gusts, bright spells ?!?!

Bait: lug, mack, sandeel, squid, maddies

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: 10 flounder to 36cm :D

Report: wrecked, but delighted - first 20mins it was a downpour with a really strong gale - was examining my sanity for a good while

was pegged at the end (northerly end) not near either of the early pegs near the streams

was not expectatious but within 30 mins - first off 2 undersizes - blank saved!!!

threw it in again where the were - 2 counters!

bit further plump 36cm

same again - another 36 and an undersize

in close another counter 31cm

and again another counter

and again another counter - all fish in an hour and 45mins

then all quiet

but was enough - took the comp!

most fish on the top hooks not - the usual below the lead

the northerly must have blown all the fish to me first at that peg - so left none for the rest of them

lug and mack did the damage - with one gobbling a sandeel on one hook and a lug tipped with mack on another hook

another took maddies

scratching fantastic!

happy out

Well done Brian, delighted for you. You've come a long way!
Had 2 counters myself, 2 turbot on the one cast. One on lug and the other on sandeel. Missed a rattling bite later, and that was that. As I thought, most fish caught in the first hour and all quiet once the tide turned. Hate fishing that beach on a rising tide!
You did well, some top anglers there and you totally outfished them. Congrats again!

Lads, ask JP how he got on!!

snow capped mountains

features on the beach at low water

weather was very strange - was warm at times when the sun broke through and then at other times hands were numb from the cold!
