Hook Lighthouse, Co. Wexford, 5/4/08

Sun Apr 06, 2008 6:41 pm

People:me

Duration:12 - 5pm

Tide:arrived at low tide, fished incoming tide

Weather:perfect, warm sunny & dry

Bait:lug, rag, fresh peeler, sand eel, squid

Rigs:rotten bottom pennels, float rig

Results:pollock, coalie, dogfish, bull huss, wrasse

Report:great day fishin in a new mark, clear sky, calm water, conditions looked great and i wasint disapointed.. picked up my first ever wrasse and i was chuffed with the size of it, very strong bite and it didnt stop fighting until i got him back in the water, was very suprised to be hooking dogs and a small huss on such a bright sunny day, the water was crystal clear and i didnt expect to pic up any shark species until dusk at least. some good size pollock and coalies around also  , will definitley be fishing this spot again, and drop down a few conger baits.. ASAP

I take my hat off, nothing like hitting it off first time on a new mark.

Glad to see the Wrasse taking too, I'm just waiting for this cold spell to carry over then I'll be hitting my fav. local marks.

Fair play nialler, good days fishing. Whats the water depth like around there nialler? is there any rough ground? Any one had any luck spinning for pollack around this area?

Mon Apr 07, 2008 3:02 pm

it was my first time fishing this mark keith, from what i gathered it was all rough ground, certaintly for 100-150 yards out anyway, id say rotten bottoms are a must, its all rock legdges and drop offs some only shallow where you can see the bottom, others much deeper down in to darkness, defo worth a go with a jelly worm or a spinner, not sure if the pollock would be there in enough numbers yet to take a lure tho, i caught all mine at distance, nothing in close
