How do you get to "Carlilise Pier" - I presume it is the same as "Carlisle Pier" shown on the map of rock marks on this site.

I had a look on Google Earth (they have a high resolution QuickBird image for the Cork Harbour area and there are a two possible candidates A and B for a pier - it is the northern one (A)

On Google Earth I can see a road that swings around the northern/western perimeter of the refinery - is that open to public access?

It sounds like an interesting place to fish - I was unaware that there was a pier there until now.

It is the Northern one. It is a bit of a trek from the road. Known for rays, mainly thornback & the occasional homlyn. Mark B is extremely difficult to get to & you may need permission. I've only been on it after tying up on my boat and I've never seen anyone fishing there.

Thanks guys,
I will have to give the mark a try sometime soon.

Whats the ground like - clean?

Whats the current like at the height of the flood? would you need to use 5 - 6 oz gripper weights?

Does any particular bait work better than others?

PS. I like your website Thighlines - there is a lot of useful info there.

there do not seem to be any drag in the current from fishing it only 5 or 6 times cant pin down any one bait that works well but you cant go wrong with crab it seems to be a sandy patches around the water is clear enough coming down to the pier your up that high you can see were there is reefs i.e. weed patches and so on its deep water so you don,t need the longest cast in the world .
thanks about the website site adding to it all the time .

hope this helps
just if you go down at night time watch your footing as it a bit slipping if it has been raining
