Bait: fresh lug, frozen razor

Rigs: 2 hook flapper and a 2/0 pulley

Results: 3 coalfish to me, 1 to Paul




Report: Many thanks to Paul (Lastcast) for taking me out down in fur flung West Cork and especially for providing the fresh lug. Great guy and good company for a nights fishing. Thanks for the info on the marks - I'll be putting them to good use at some point soon. In deference to Paul, I'll not mention the marks by name.
Anyway, fished two marks a short walk from each other, either side of a big rock basically. One straight into the sea and wind, where Paul got a coalie and a nice big bite which developed into nothing. My rod stand kept blowing over and as the tide was receding Paul felt the other mark might fish better and was more sheltered as well.
Perched on a comfortable rock platform, we fished back onto the beach at the end of a stream. I fired out a razor lug combo long, back towards our previous mark and fished another rod closer in. I think I got a big bite on the distance rod, as it fell over (don't think it was the wind this time, as it was pretty well jammed into the rocks), but the line hit the rock and was cut, so no idea if there was a fish on or not. Got a single coalie, then a double shot as I reeled in my last cast. All the fish came to lug close in.

Paul generously left my the rest of the lug, which I didn't get a chance to use till Sunday morning back home at my old favourite mark. They were a bit past their best, didn't attract any fish, but did seem to attract plenty of surfers :evil:. Usual rubbish with them, I even moved from where I was despite being there first, so that they'd have more room, but they still ended up on top of me. Had to laugh as not one of them managed more than 2 seconds up on their boards. Just wish they'd have a bit of consideration, same old story I wouldn't start fishing in a spot where they or any other beach user was, so don't understand why they think they can, oh well, back to night fishing only there.

Thats just typical of surfers - one Sunday afternoon in January I fished Whiting Bay. The beach was deserted then a lone surfer showed up and proceeded to surf directly in front of me :evil:
I move down the beach, but two more surfers arrived and started surfing close to me again :evil: :evil:
These guys couldn't stay on their boards for more than a few seconds either :lol: :lol:
At least those surfing idiots don't surf at night :D

swimmers are the same on one of my marks like feckin magnets to you on a 3 mile empty beach :roll: " lets annoy the dirty fisherman :lol: "same old same old :x

Surfers can be a pain but I find the fact, notice I said fact not threat, that my weights are trying to get over their heads as the wave they are on is the one I want to fish past normally gets through to them.
6oz of lead is intimidating when travelling at speed.
I've never thrown in their direction nor would I, but I can shout quite loud and they understand hand gestures, so far I've gotten rid of them.

Most women will laugh and ask what method you are fishing, they will always stay out of your way.

But the ugliest woman there (usually with a dog) will make a point of walking behind you and saying "Oi Watch it".

Seriously, Try it out. I guarantee you.

But the ugliest woman there ?are they all ugly up that way or just the ones on the beaches? :lol:they do say dog owners look like the dog they pick :lol: :lol:
