a spit, north clare, 16-03-08

Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:13 pm

People: me fein

Duration: 3.30 to 7.30 approx

Tide: low around 6.15

Weather: dry! odd patch of sunshine, v clear sky in darkness, light NE

Bait: mack, squid, sandeel, all refrozen

Rigs: 2 hook flapper, single pat, spun a shad

Results: a flounder 26cm

Report: wanted to try this mark for a long time - wind wasnt great and neither were the tides but that was the hand i was dealt

had one rod in the shallow southerly beach and another in the larger northerly beach

no action at all not even crabs - started to spin around the point to break it up a bit at least

even though the bottom is sandy - there was a good amount of weed about and the spinning was fairly redundant

the dusk came and the baits started to go missing - coinciding with LT

then the flounder appeared on the bottom hook of the flapper to a lump of sandeel

blank saved - at least there are some sort of fish here

maybe not the ones we keep hearing about

a gorgeous setting and with the sunshine and the clear moonlit sky where else would you rather be :D

i'd say that place will be more productive in a few more months

what was interesting was - there was a lad leaving with a telescopic spinning rod when i arrived before you hop the gate (and the 25min walk) and as i was walking i noticed another chap with a rod bag - but he didnt come to the beaches - maybe plugging ? on the ledges etc.
