Weather: Kerry - weather - what do you think ? (actually only blustery short showers, clear and breezy in between, actually sunny on Sunday morning with the occasional shower and hail - but nice all the same) - as soon as I go over the county bounds it starts raining - is that how they decided where the boundary between Cork and Kerry should be - where the rain starts/stops?

Bait: razor, lug, sandeel

Rigs: 2 hook flappers, single hook clipdown

Results: 1 5 bearded rockling

Report:

Visiting (with rods of course) and with a willing accomplice we headed to Ballyquin beach on Saturday night - bouyed by the success of Scotland I thought the day could only get better. Plauged by weed at eastern end, moved back up towards Brandon towards the end of the session where it turned out there was none. No fish action that we could see. Joined by our good lady wives on a stroll for about a minute before they headed to the car for warmth. Reeled in for final time to find a five bearded rockling attached to my hook (baited with lug and razor). Why, oh why are these the only fish I can now catch. Never got one until this year, now I have 5 or 6 of them to my credit - I can't catch anything else at the moment. Even worse it took my 2/0 as I'd stepped back up the hook sizes to try and avoid one!!!!

Sunday morning after a good breakfast, headed down the Cloghane estuary to fish the channel. Has moved to the other side since last year and seems to be a big long pool at low tide where we fished last year. Anyway, we fished it again, spinning with lures and beach casting with sandeel. Not a nibble or a ripple to suggest any fish were there. So business as usual for me in Kerry.

Looks like one of my reports for Kerry. Fished both these marks a couple of times over the last few months and blanked every time. Better luck next time.

Thanks lads, thought it was just me :)

I saw a good few bass (and flats) being caught off Ballyquinn back late summer last year, hooked one myself, but lost it in the surf.
I have never caught in Cloghane, but seen plenty of seatrout and heard enough stories from my friend down there about sea trout and bass to think it is probably decent enough on its day.
Would have tried up Brandon bay a bit , but with all these weather warnings we thought a steep shelving beach would be safest.
