wicklow pier, 28th feb 08

Fri Feb 29, 2008 5:55 pm

People:myself and Neil
Duration:6.30pm - 10pm

Tide:low

Weather:starry night, cool breeze, getting milder later.

Bait:Mack, squid, few lug and rag.

Rigs:2 hook flappers, pennell

Results:me; 2 doggies, 15 whiting, Neil; 1 coalfish, 1 dab, 15 whiting, 1 octopus and 2 Killoughter Dogs.

Report:Met Neil at the pier at 6.30 and set up .Straight away he was into a coalie and we thought we were in for a bucket load of them  . Sadly this was the only one of our session, but we had plenty of sport which made up for the lack of coalies. The dab came next for Neil and was followed by a doggie for me. Catch of the night was an octopus which was the first i'd seen  . Strange sensation to have one in your hand and was worth the trip for me. The whiting came steady all night, no real size, but kept us busy. Mack was the main bait here, mine tipped with squid. Neil even caught 3 whiting on 2 hooks,go figure that out  . At one stage Neil told me he had hooked into a "Killoughter Doggie", which turned out to be a stone attached to some weed  . All in all a good session , and looking out at the storms today, i 'm glad i went last night instead  .
