North Donegal Pier 20/2/08

Thu Feb 21, 2008 3:27 pm

People:Just myself

Duration:4.20pm to 8.30pm

Tide:High water around 6pm

Weather: Blustery up to F6 or F7 at times. Dry

Bait:Lugworm and mackerel

Rigs:3 hook flapper, 1 hook pat(with rotten bottom)

Results:4 coalies, 1 poor cod, 1 whiting, 1 dab, 2 three beard rockling, 1 shore rockling

Report:Difficult conditions with the wind being so blustery and only for the fact that was using braid the bites would have been impossible to see. It didn't help either that a load of shrimp pots had been set around the pier itself, pain in the arse to avoid.Out on the sand was pretty desperate, some coalies and a few other bits an bobs but no sign of the decent whiting apart from a solitary one of about 16cm :?

Had more fun with the mini rod chasing rockling, took three altogether..a pair of 3 beards and a single shore. Ironic that the biggest fish of the session was one of the rockling....says a lot about the state of everyday shore angling in this country.

God bless that little mini rod Ronald, have had some great crack with it. Interestingly took all the rockling at the flat part of concrete at the bottom of the steps...before they dropped away into deeper water. Putting it straight down just allowed the crabs to rob the bait. Asked John to put pics of rockling in for me.
