Sligo Beach mark - 12.2.08

Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:37 am

People: me

Duration: 3-6.00

Tide: lw @ 3.00

Weather: lovely - better than last summer

Bait: sandeel

Rigs: 2 up, 3oz weight

Results: 1 bass !!!!! about 2 - 2 1/2ish lb - very plump and in great condition

Report:

Only my 2nd outing this year, today was so good i decided to skive off work and leg it to the coast - arrived around low water - nice surf first cast in close, and started baiting up the second rod - looked up to see the first rod slack, lifted into what i thought was a nice seatrout. nearly died when i realised it was a Bass!!! this is my first ever - and to get it in broad daylight in Sligo in Feburary was pretty jammy by anybodys standards. Missed another bite next cast ( convinced it was his bigger brother :-)) ) but that was it - surf really picked up and had no grip leads so baits were getting dragged every where.

was tempted to keep him for the pan - but figured WTF and got a quick pic on the phone , unhooked him and sent him back to fight another day

will post pic when i download the software (Bloody Vista :-(( )

Well done Davyp and congrats on your first Bass, I have yet to have the pleasure, and will follow your example and release him/her :) if/when i catch one.

Well done Davy P

There are pockets holding bass in the NW but not many. Best to release them as you will probably catch him or her again on the same beach.

Well done again

A brave man to go beach fishing up the NW this time of year. Fantastic to see that Bass are up there at this time of year. A resident population........

Well Done Davyp
It's my ambition to get a bass in Sligo this year, but then again it was my ambition last year too! I have 2 likely spots picked out and you've spurred me on try one this weekend.

Well done again hope it's the first of many up here.
