Myself and 6 others

Fished 3pm to 8pm Hw approx 4-30pm

Sea - rough but fishable weather wet and cold wind light

Bait - Lug, rag, mackeral, squid and crab.

Catch 2 Flounder and 2 coalfish.

Having travelled to this venue we decided to give it a try even though conditions were not good . After about 30 minutes Martin landed a very fat
43 cm flounder which weighed 2lb 3oz. No more bites untill after dark when I got a flounder followed by 2 coal fish. All in all we were probably lucky to get what we did due to the condition of the sea, lots of small rocks were being washed up on the beach and rolling around in the surf on what is normally a very sandy beach.

Love this place for fishing. Last time we fished it the conditions were terrible but the m8 managed 1 flounder of around the same size. I think this beach would throw up some good fish in the summer. I had a caravan up on the hill behind the beach for 10 years but we never fished the beach. We always fished the rocks to the right and over the other side of the hill. I had a pollack of 9lb over there. There is another beach on round the coast from trannarossan its out near Melmore, you can't see it from the road. I think it would throw up loads of species in the summer.

Hi Ronan

I am reliably informed that the beach beyond heading for Melmore is flounder only but lots of them.

Interesting to see you fished the "southern" end, most people go for the "northern" end - was it the wind and conditions that shoved you in there, like Ronan I always remember fishing the "top" end after the long walk from the new car park.

FWIW

Hi Kieran the beach that i'm on about is known by the locals as Murder Hole. If you travel towards the caravan site at Melmore head theres a gate on the bend just before you come to the entrance to the site. You have to park your car at the gate and walk across 2 fields to the left. As you walk down towards the beach theres an island to right of the beach which you can walk onto at low water. This beach also has to be fished at certain times because the tide will cut you off when its flooding. I think that you would catch Ray here in the summer, i remember being out on a local charter and he brought us into this bay where we caught a few ray. I have fished most of the spots on the coastline right the way round from Downings to Melmore head and into Mulroy Bay and i think heres some brilliant fishing to be had at these spots. Can't wait to the spring now to get back down.

Kieran,

Although I have fished this beach at least 6 times since early Dec last I have never ventured to the northern end. I will try that end in the next fortnight
and post the results. This beach can be good when conditions allow but at the moment it changes with every storm . One week it is stoney the next the stones are covered in sand and the fishing is better also it is one of the few venues in this area that can be fished in the storms because it is reasonably sheltered from large seas by the offshore islands
