West Cork Rock Mark, 11/01/08

Sat Jan 12, 2008 2:03 am

People: Me & petekd

Duration: 20:45 - 23:45

Tide: HW 19:25

Weather: Calm, cold and clear

Bait: sandeel, lug, mackerel

Rigs: 3 hook flappers, (and a go with a 2/0 pennel pulley)

Results: Me 1 pouting, 2 poorcod - Pete Thornback ray, poorcod, whiting, pouting, dogfish (8 fish in total I think)

Report: Needed to fish, so gave Pete a call and as it was calm decided to try his special rock mark, which hadn't been very kind to us when we'd last fished it due to the wind, with a back up of our west cork beach mark if we found it unfishable, which thankfully it wasn't.
I'll let Pete elaborate on his side of things, but it was a good evenings fishing :), especially for him.
I managed a pouting and the poorcod (and a few more missed bites when I was using bigger hook sizes).
Fishing was good early on (I was targetting a ray at this point, so probably could have got a few more fish if I'd changed tactics - or at least that's my excuse for catching less than Pete  ).
It dropped off at about 11 with the last couple of casts producing nothing (Pete was on fish or more a cast prior to this).

Anyway, I'll be back to this spot again - 5 species including a ray from an impromptu pleasure fish in January - great!
