Duration: 4pm - 8pm
Tide: Pushing
Weather: Westerly, Squaly at times
Bait: Black Lug, Ragworm, Mackeral, Maddies, Blow Lug
Rigs: Scratchers, Penell Pully, Double Pully, Loop Rig.
Results: Pollack, Coalies, Codling, Pouting, Shore Rockling
Report: Well it was back to home turf for the first session of the year, and the long anticipated debut of the Foo Fighter/Abu High Speed. All I can say is "WOW", The Foo Fighter is an absolutely amazing fishing tool and the winding power on the Abu is to be seen to be believed! 8)
But, Anyway, back to the fishing, Met my mate at the bottom of the pier at about 3.55pm and proceeded to the end of the pier, the tide was quite low and we got set up. I Fished a Loop Rig with Fine Wire B940s with Plenty of Bling on the Foo Fighter, While I set up the Sidewinder with the 7ht and Loaded it up with a Sakuma Penell Pulley Rig.
Fishing Began slowly and DrewK arrived with Ragworm (Our Saviour!) The Mate Managed a Pouting and Drew got set up. The Rag really made the difference with plenty of small fish readily taking Drews Ragworm baits. Meanwhile I christened my new toy with my First fish of the Year, A Codling of about 8oz.

The Mate got the Creel out and we had a bit of fun seeing what was about down the side, with the usual suspects of Rockling, Crabs and Pollack making a show. Meanwhile I managed a Pouting and Coalfish on each of the Hooks of the Penell Rig!

Fishing in honesty was slow, Drew built up a decent bag of small Pollack and Pouting. Meanwhile the mate got his first Shore Rockling of the Year and I hooked something decent in the rough which proceeded to bury its head then the inevitable *Snap* happened.
Undetered I put on a new Shockleader and a Double Sheppy. Baited with Mackeral and Lugworm I fired it back near the rough stuff and after a while got a 28cm Shore Rockling. First of the year! 8)

Fishing Continued with the Odd pouting still showing, The lads started packing up while I fished on, catching a Coalfish of around 30cm. Always good to get a coaly on your first trip of the year, and it gave a good account of itself on the new setup.
The lads left, and the fishing slowed right down, for the last 20 minutes I fished on and had another 2 Small Pollack. I got my first 5 Species of the year, so I definitely can't complain.
Roll on the next one.
Thanks for the Rag Drew! 8)
