People: myself, hugh c and Vipers(T)d
Duration: 10.30 - 19.30
Tide: high 9am ish!
Weather: very blustery SE but got milder with darkness
Bait: lug, mack, mussell, razor, crab, squid, sandeel
Rigs: pulleys and flappers
Results: blank carraroe, flounder, coalie, whiting, dog lettergesh
Report: two boys were after doing some marathon driving from cork the night before and were up bright and early sunday morning to get out to carraroe
on arrival the sea was noticably choppy and the casting very difficult - the wind too strong to even carry the rig a bit - as a consequence couldnt hit the channel and not even the crabs were touching the bait
the most exciting thing to happen was a cormorant flew into one of the lines
after plenty of banter and practically forgetting about the fishing with the line left in the water for ages - we decided to move on leaving at about 2pm
after stopping in a petrol station/tackle shop and buying stuff we didnt know we needed it was on to lettergesh - how many meters of shock did you get hugh
here it was already dark but we had the wind to our backs which was great - it wasnt as cold and with the darkness the temp was much milder
first flounder a counter with the dusk
then a fight - thought it was a coalie close in - but no a flounder 1.5lbs!
real thick - gut hooked so i took my first of the year - just ate tonight for tea - gorgeous :D
whilst this was happening to myself viper got a coalie and then a dog - hugh still relying on distance only
i had the 2 rods out and in came a dog - not hooked - just would not let go!
then viper got a nice big flounder for himself also
hugh still blanking!
then it quietened for a bit on the turn and as the fill started again - i got another dog
and then a decent coalie about 2lbs but never even seemed like he was on no life in him at all ???
viper got a whiting and another dog or 2 - hugh eventually getting some dogs - probably missed a few more fish caught by the lads
viper showed me a pipefish that one of the dogs spat out - 25cm - 25 points - in a comp recently - couldnt believe it counted! madness if you ask me
then i got my final flounder
and the boys were getting the itchy feet for home so we packed up - good craic with the lads and as ever good to put faces to names
good luck in the fish off vipers(T)d!
