Duration:1630-2220

Tide:hw@ 2015

Weather:strong S breeze (28kmh)

Bait:fresh black lug, frozen crab and razor, fresh mussel

Rigs:3/0pulley

Results:27 coalies to 39cm, 6 codling 2x 1lb, 3x 2.5lb 1x 3lbs

Report:

so the day started with me drivin an hour west to dig some blacks and collect some razor. unfortunately the wind had flatened the lug beds so i had to go dig elsewhere. elsewhere unfortunately i a lug bed covered by a foot of oozing mud which has to be cleared away before you even start digging. only positive is that the lug are about 10 inchs long.

with lug got i turned round and drove what turned out to be 100 miles east to try and get some more codling while the tides are good. first cast resulted in a small 1lb codling on lug and crab. coalies began to show after and hour, mainly falling to lug and razor or lug and mussels with the mussel especially effective..

about 2 hours before hw the codling began to really come on the feed with 4 all around the 2 1/2lb mark showing to cran and lug cocktails in the space of 45 mins. again the coalies came on the feed with vengence,i must hav had about 15 in the space of an hour, before one more codling showed, again to lug and crab.after hw only coalies showed. unfortunately no more codling but with half a dozen in an evening i cant complain

just cos the wind flattened the beds don't mean the lug arnt there... if they are there in numbers, just dig blind. it might be slightly slower not knowing where the casts are but the worms will be there.... somewhere....

i tried alright for 10 mins steve but couldnt seem to locate them.also was on a bit of a time constraint as i wanted to get through the city before the traffic got heavy and it was about 2 1/2 hours to east crok.. also was thousands of razor shells smashed at the hw mark  , guess it will take a few weeks before i can begin to restock the freezer

[b]pat
remember the other night when i said i had alot less coalies than previous years, think i should have kept my mouth shut as murphies law would entail i would catch a bucket load of them

Next time you're fishing East Cork you should dig the bait there aswell. You'll be under less time pressure and save on the driving.
