Aurelian, I think I bumped into you as I was going that night. Had possibly the most frustrating session ever. Got 6 fish and only managed to land 2! All I can think is that the snags were wearing my shock leaders, as I had 4 or 5 break-offs in the surf. Only landed 2 pollock of about a pound each.

most of the snags are new to the beach, where the carpark is there used to be clean ground with a nice steepish slope, now thanks to our makie basher's shocklearderless casts with a ten ounce lead and my own dodgy crack offs hefts have begun form.
hefts consist of a ball of line, rigs and leads, of course somewhere down the line weed begins to grow and before you know it you have a reef, the place is full with small wrasse and mini species this in turn attracts small cod, pollock, bass etc. last week i managed to reel in a mass of line with a couple of leads, the trick to getting out of them
is to not use gemini clips as the line can slip through them and not using gripers. steady pressure can break the hefts as the line is often frayed and damaged but most of the time steer clear!!!

Talking about the ban, I was chatting to Donal Marren the Local Authority Member on Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council on Saturday. I asked him about the proposed ban. He said that it was to do with rubbish on the beach, but that it won't go ahead. Just thought I'd pass that on.
