landed down in dungarvan just after midday on the saturday.. went into the moorings for something to nibble on and coffee... wondering where to go we decided to follow my gps to

Clonea 17th..
arrived at the beach with a strong wind pushing some good surf, which some kite surfers were making use of :? , donned the waders and the floatie jacket and proceded to get blown about the beach with some very nice horizontal rain  , cortaz phoned me to see where we were and joined us shortly after(but had prior engagements so couldnt fish with us)
so after a nice long chat in the jeep(while mc was stood on the beach in te cold and wet) it was back to fishing for me.. the wind was getting stronger and the rain heavier and darkness was looming..

decisions had to be made.. enough was enough.. we packed up and headed for Tramore.. having lost the print out with phone numbers to b&b's and hostels  it was time to chance my luck by knocking on doors.. i knew where the Hostel is in tramore after staying there last year so there was first port of call.. within two minutes of ringing the doorbell i had us booked in for two nights and paid for and keys in my pocket.. a quick walk around the hostel to show MC the inside and where everything is, it was time to venture into tramore and see what way the sea was and check out the local chippy's (teacher, we found one you'd like   )
after a bite to eat and a quick pint we walked downn to the waters edge.. the wind had died down dramatically so it was decided to go back to the car and collect the rods(thankfully we didnt park too far away)

Tramore slip 17th..
arrived down to slip and the wind had died and rain was falling vertical again, a couple of lads were fishing there before we arrived and a few came down as high tide approached, MC hooked into his first fish after a while.. a coalie.. nice size too.. not long after i plucked one out from the surf... plans were made for the following day for a bit of cod fishing and bass fishing later in the night... as the tide ebbed the fisher's beside us left (possibly because they couldnt cast far enough from the slip to hit the 3rd breaker) nothing else showed up that night so it was back to the hostel to recharge the batteries...

we woke up early(i dont like mornings) and aftre a quick visit to my Girlfriends family house(herself was down helping out at the film festival, so it was a good chance to see her) and with it being early we decided to head over to Dunmore east..

Dunmore East 18th
on arrival at the harbour the skies were overcast with sun patches and a breeze from the north, there was still nice swell from the previous day so conditions looked good...
fishing started off good for me with a double shot on a single hook rig  , a nice coalie and whitingn the same hook... ended up catching quite a few good sized coalies there(unlike the fish fingers i catch back home), MC got one massive bite, but unfortunatly it brought his rig into the rocks  and ended up loosing a rig.. both of us recon it was a good sized codling.. we fished here till 2pm and went for lunch..

found a very nice cafe just up from the harbour.. lads i recommend you go there.. the panini's are nice too   .. after food was eaten and quite a few laughs and the repeating of the word 'Panini', we headed off to one of the cod marks i know about..

cod mark 18th...
on arrival to a place wherte you would least expect to find any sea fishing marks, hidden away was the estuary.. i dont care what people say.. it still feels weird fishing a river with a zziplex and lugworm..
yet again MC was the first in to get a whiting and i was soon to follow with one too.. fishing was very slow and so was the movement in the river..
after a while barrymurpy arrived down to us for a bit of banter.. the words 'Panini' and 'lug juice have now brought on a whole new meaning in the english language...
a few more whiting were caught and i managed a poor cod too but were wernt to see any codling.. even though i did get a massive bite on the spinning rod, and hook was set but the snood snagged, and i could feel the fish on the other end and it didnt feel small. i tried to let the fisdh un snag its self but no joy there.. so only one thing for it.. i could feel it start to give.. then snap.. i lost the snood   .. i must be jinxed down there :? :?

headed into waterford to meet up with the girlfriend who was in the process of watching a film(a part of the film festival) so we joined her for what she told me "only ten minutes left", an hour late rwe vacated the tower and headed towards the applemarket in search of food. i think ended up getting the 5A and the 37 in the chinese... chilli king prawn and king prawn fried rice.. MC had the chicken version of both.. YUMMIE. i highly recommend that place(whatever its called)..food devoured in the car and it was time to hit a bass mark down tramore..

tramore 19th...
arrived down just after midnight and an hour or so(ish) after high tide it was back into waders and floatie again.. with a northerly wind that would cut through any unclothed flesh.. i cast out while MC was still sorting out his stuff and went back to the car for a few tins of beer..
there were 2 lads to my left that packed up just as we arrived and to me they seemed fishless.. oh dear.. was this going to happen to us..
i had the ratchet set on the sl20sh so i wasnt too worried about leaving the rod alone.. and during a phone conversation the rathet could be heard, a quick hangup and run over saw me lose a nice bite :( i left the baits out and continued to tell MC a few local spots around the area and panini made its way into the conversation again    ..
then there was a nice rattle of my rod tip.. quick strike to set the hook i knew i was into a good fish.. and i was right.. a nice bar of silver slid up to the waters edge with the help of the surf.. a quick measure revealed it to be 44cm and weighing in at just under 3lbs that was me happy for the night. MC's rod rattled to the attention of a nice coalie  .. then another.. then MC got a nice bang to the rod... what looked like a good fish ended up being a flounder  i got a couple of nice coalie.. then fishing seemed to go slack. at 3am i found a coalie that washed back up the beach so in for a wade i went and revived it slowly and off it went.. walked back to the tripod and saw a couple of light taps to my rod.. 'oh dear' we though 'another coalie'.. gave the fish a light strike and all of a sudden all hell broke loose.. i offered MC my rod but he said it' my fish... another bar of silver appeared onto the beach.. slightly larger too.. on quick inspection i could see that the hook was set deep and the health of the fish was compromised.. so after doing what had to be done. a quick measure revealed it to be 50cm and just over 3lbs.. i decided not to fish any more and give MC a chance of catching as lug levels were running very low..
we stayed on an extra hour and with a few good missed rattles and a very good rattle ended up being the largest coalie of the day/night..

all in all a very enjoyable weekend had by both of us
