Wed Nov 07, 2007 11:39 am

People: Me and pete

Duration: 2130-0100

Tide: LT 2110

Weather: NW breeze and chilly, went SW later and got much milder

Bait: Lug, mack

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: Me 5 flounder 1 coalie, Pete 6 flounder 2 whiting 1 coalie

Catch and Release:: Yes except 1 flounder that was bleeding too much

Report:Pete was en route back to Donegal from Cork so stopped off for the night, and it was decided to fish Silverstrand. Tide was well out and small surf running so conditions looked good.
Set up for about 9.30 and first cast Pete had a nice flounder about 30cm. Took me a while to get off the mark, but what a start - fat flounder of 37cm! Best I've had from this beach. After that it was tremendous sport - bites were frequent, even if we missed a few. Pete had a fine fish of 37cm too, and I had 2 fish of 35cm and 1 34cm. These fish were in cracking condition, really plump. Unfortunately one of them bled heavily when unhooked so had to take him.
We also got a few round fish, Pete had a couple of small whiting and a coalie that made 20cm, I had a nice coalie of about 27cm.
Was fishing the new rod last night - Greys BZE, light as a feather and easy to hold while fishing, great bite detection and nice feel when bringing in a fish, you feel every pull. Well pleased with it.
Great session, nice bit of banter with the Neil Mackellow wannabe (check out the beard  ) and super fishing.
:D :D

Nice fishing lads, did the McG fella not tell you? He's growing out the beard in the hope of having some of it transplanted onto his bonce...... :D

Would you believe the fella landed down the house on Sunday, gorged himself with grub and then refused to come fishing..... The cheek....

Aye, he said he was trying to compensate for the shiny pate! The camera had problems last night trying to set the flash level, his head was just too bright

Sorry Steve, had a full car. McGroary ate a full steak dinner when he arrived so there wasn't much room left....

Yeah the flatties are a great size at the moment. Had the unlucky one for tea this evening, very tasty!
Looking forward to getting my first rockling when they arrive...

Steve can you work some magic with those pics and stick Bradan's head on the end of a flounder.....the look on his face..if you look closely has certain fish like qualities, guthookedflounderish almost

Fun bit of fishing that, some decent quality to the flats too. Thanks for putting us up for the night to Kev and as for the steak dinner.....remember it was you that spent most of the session burning a hole in the arse of your neoprenenes. Alas the beard is no more....was beginning to think i was resembling the Donal Dominator so had it shaved pronto

That's pretty damn good Steve!!

Out again tonight with a guy from work, no surf at all so didn't expect much. Had 4 flounder and a little turbot, my biggest was 35cm tonight. Seamus had 2 flounder, with a cracking 37cm fish the best. Next good surf on this beach I think I'll pull an all nighter :D
