Report:Last m.a. comp of the year, mick maher or myself needed to win it and needed Cliff Galogley to blank for either of us to win the master angler with B.A.S.S. this year. First cast i cracked off, micks bait came back untouched and cliff had a doggie. All over in the first cast.
Coalies were all a decent size, there were only 4 cod caught ( all about 1 1/2 - 2lb ), 1 small ray and Dr. seafish caught his second ray ever ( wingspan 53cm ).

Congratulations to Cliff Gallogley, B.A.S.S. Club Master Angler 2007, and thanks to the lads from Cloyne s.a.c and Great Island who fished as guests.

Hi kstaff,
Well there rare for me, however without putting my head on the block there are not that many caught in the west waterford area. The beaches in east Cork such as around Garryvoe, Ballywilling tend to produce more and certainly more blond rays. SOme inshore boat fishermen get plenty of decent fish there in the autumn. The conditions the other night were perfect for ray and doggies, flat calm with low tides. One reason why more aren't caught as that if your not comp fishing you would not be knocking sandeel or mackeral wraps to distance as you would try to avoid all those doggies and therefore people tend to target coddling, coalies, whiting, bass and flounder with crab and lug when pleasure fishing.
I would however like to know what people think of whiting bay as a venue as it surprised me the other night as conditions were far from perfect yet the fishing wasn't that bad. I hadn't fished it in years due to lots of bad experiences but I'll be back now on better tides to see what turns up.

JUST GIVING AWAY A VENUE!!!!!!
DISGRACEFUL(':P')(':P')

Fishing was better down your end of the beach, the main reason you dont hear much about whiting bay is because most people fish the other end of the beach. Or do silly things like fish there in daylight.

( And Drseafish, we will be there again next year so you might catch some more ray! I could do with one myself!! )

Cheers for that Dr, my main missioin this year will be a Thornie from teh shore, so I'm compiling a list of where they are turning up down Waterford way.

i fished this beach a couple of times and thought it was full of potential.
we fished in calm conditions with a small swell causing 2 breakers and had bass, flounder, coalfish, lsd and a huss.
could see this producing a bag full with a nice surf and no WEED.
