Report;
Read a post on here and decided to give it a shot out there. Headed early enough in the tide to try and avoid any mackie bashers, amazed when I arrived and there were 3 lads there already at low tide. Set up just back from the end of the pier and cast into what I hoped would be a gully caused by the run of the water. Quiet for the first hour getting bait stripped by crabs.
Changed to a rig with floating beads and had 2 whiting in 20 mins. Got chatting to a fella from the area and he advised to fish the outer wall on the float, so waited for my Aussie mate to get back from the shop (he was freezing!).
Float fishing mack and rag and had the mack then pollock in quick succession. The bashers then came in and crowded the place out then so just hung back for a bit. It seemed too cold for some of them and resumed fishing when the lead had stopped flying!
Was busy helping my mate set up a float rig and turned round to see my float go under. At this point had changed to a carp rod I use for spinning, thinking it would be more fun for the size of fish I was getting. Mistake. What I reckon was a big pollock took the rag and dove straight down, wasn't able to hold it on the carp rod and after getting two huge lunges down I felt nothing. Couldn't shift the thing at all. All I can think is that it got me snagged. Going back with the heavy gear for another crack soon.
