Congratulations on your first specimen bass - magnificent fish. Ye are fishing really well down there at the moment - really helping Waterford to claim its stake as the best county for bass in the country. I assume that you haven't got the certified scales yet? Will you be able to claim it?

Sat Oct 20, 2007 8:22 am

i dont see the facination of claiming a specimum once you get a picture ,a bit of paper will never put that smile back on your face like a picture on the mantle piece 8) (so debrock tells me  )

that is a seirous bass. well done for releasing it.

thats one big mother as henry gilbey would say, i feel sorry for the camera man to say a bit blinded by the light is an understatement 8)

Sat Oct 20, 2007 11:27 am

Believe it or not the only way to get some kind of photo was to sine the light on it,have one were we didnt didnt come out at all. :)

Sat Oct 20, 2007 11:33 am

Didnt have a certified scales,i know i got him thats all that matters, hopefully the pics we took with the other camara will come out better :d

In all fairness id say Waterford has the best bass fishing in the country hands down.

MAGNIFICENT BASS..............
I really hope it felt good to put such a special fish back.. respect...
make sure to enter it in the fish of the month catch and release competition in sea angler, you should win with that fish.
well done.

p.s just a couple of hints for taking pics at night. turn off the headlamp of whoever is holding the fish, and if they are wearing a jacket with reflective strips, take that off as well while you take the pic, the light and reflections will fool the camera into underexposing the picture, whoever is taking the picture should have their headlamp on, pointing at the angler holding the fish, which will help the digital camera to focus on the subject.

Well done tbag, that's fantastic fishing. I hoped to catch my first bass this year and didn't get out to give it a go, thought it was too late now but you're proving its not.

nice fish tbag well done. is the fish in the pic hanging on a weight hook in the gills?

if it is you might find its better for the fish not to do that. its been shown in pike and i would guess is the same for bass that all that weight hanging on a very thin hook can cause damage to the gill rakers and the operculum, the gill cover, and could reduce chances of survival.

you would be better off holding it horizontallywith teo hands, or horizontally or vertically with one hand in the gill (but not between the rakers) and the other supporting the belly

if you get the hang of where to hold it you will be safe from the sharp gill covers, and it will be better for the fish.

good catch well done
