People: me
Duration: 18:00 - 20:30
Tide: coming in
Weather: superb
Bait: feathers
Rigs: n/a
Results: 11 pollock, 1 whiting
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report:
Since the mackerel season is coming to its end [one might argue that it’s already over but there’s still mackerel around], I thought I’ll push my luck and try to bait myself up [at least for a weekend; two – three mackerels would do me] so I’ve packed my spinning rod, put feathers on and went for a good old fashioned mackerel bashing session down to a slip road in Salthill / Galway.
To my big surprise, even though the weather was superb and I was fishing on probably the busiest spot in whole Co. Galway, there was no one else there.
The final score after about 2 and a 1/2 hr session was eleven 10 to 15 inches pollock, 1 whiting but 0 mackerel.
Since I had a fairly light (£40 Fladen) spinning rod, it still was a good fun.
I know it’s not significant catch or anything like that but still I though I’ll put that on.

Had mackerel from the beach behind Blackrock diving platform last weekend and from Silverstrand during last week. Plenty of them too.
