me and a mate
: 4.00 - 11.00
: high around 8.30
: clear skys , light wind, warm
: mack, squid, sandeel
: various rigs
blank at Aughris, 1 ray off the beach ( guess 5- 6lbish)
Report:
had planned to go out sat with my bro, but that didn't happen, headed out sunday - weather was great - like being out in july
fished a few locations around augris past the pier - spinning and with bait, but no joy - weed was quite a problem and lost a few rigs - gave it about 2 1/2 hrs and then packed up and headed on to a nearby beach.
surfers were just leaveing the water when we arrived - had a chat with them - they reckoned the surf was being a bit odd - had the place to ourselves - seen a few sea trout moving when we arrived
fished with sandeel - and mack tipped with squid - serious rip tide even grip leads were getting pulled about the place.
really slow , was just getting -really- bored , checked the 2nd rod and had what felt like a big heap of weed - hauled it in - until it got close to the shore and then felt a few serious thumps - when i got him inot the surf was delighted to see my first shore caught ray - nice size - would guess about 5- 6lb range - not sure what sepecies - the head torch was a bit dim. was worried he might have the small bait well swallowed, but just hooked in the lip
ray was on mack strip - just around high tide.
fished on but no more bites
stopped at innishcrone for an hour on the way home, to feed the crabs ( aka fish for conger) - lost one - satayed about an hr - crabs were stripping everything.

Hi Davy
Was it Trawee you fished? I got a painted ray there a few weeks ago and was very surprised thought it was a one off catch.

yes shane, the ray came from trawee - fished there a fair bit last year as well but had never seen or heard of ray being taken there till you mentioned it last week - so there must be a few about. was the one you got any size?
there were a few sea trout showing in the surf - while there were 2 guys still in surfing.
surprised we didn't see any flats - it usually throws up something
