Report:The 3 others wanted to go out around youghal and i agreed a week ago. I did not know that we would be going out at 6am. And i had to take the dog with me.
The tide was the wrong height and we were fishing at the wrong time of day and the wrong time in the tide. High water was around 8am and was about 4 meters, with very few cod around i wasnt hopeful.
First spot Clinton had a bass of about 3lb in his first cast - i was watching the dog. A couple of casts later Alistair had a flounder - the dog brought me a stick to throw. After about 30 mins Cody had a tiny flounder. The dog was not impressed and went off in disgust at the size of his fish.
i took this opportunity to set up my rod and cast out, at which point the dog brought me another stick.30 mins later i changed bait while the lads had reeled in a few more fish. The weed was picking up and reeling in was becoming a chore. Clinton reeled in another bass of about 3lb so i decided to reel in myself. Heavy weed had dragged my line down so i cut it at the shockleader and pulled the rig to shore with a flounder over 40 cm. We packed up, got something to eat and moved to another spot.
The tide had been dropping for an hour and a half when we go to the next spot. Weed and branches were moving fairly steadily by so i opted not to fish. The dog decided that it was going to try and catch/play with an otter here, but when it got within 20 ft the just dived down and swam off while i nearly burst a blood vessel shouting at the dog. Cody and Alistair had nothing at this spot while Clinton caught a bass of about 35cms. We moved to the next spot after an hour.
The tide was still moving out Fairly fast but there was less weed when we started fishing. Bass were moving in front of Clinton and Alistair but they blanked, Cody had a bass hooked but it got off as he was reeling in and i had 4 casts with a flounder and a coalie being my reward.
If we had fished a slacker tide we would probably have had more fish, but they wanted to fish today. For me 3 fish out of six casts made me very happy.
