Report:
decided to give early morning a go, first thing i did this morning was log on and see if any reports were up. dbrocks instantly stood out, so with a shore caught tope in mind i set off on my early dark mornings walk to the beach with sweaty palms. first things first i set up a three hook flapper to get some bait, it didn't take long about a minute in fact to land my first treble of whiting, one smallish one was quickly dispatched, lacerated, cottoned and whacked out to a channel i found on my eco sounder one day in the yak which can be reached at low tide. the other rod bounced away until daylight with whiting of decent size, a couple came in demolished, i suspect the crabs and cuttle fish had a field day.
looking at the tope rod i noticed a slight tap so i loosened the drag, nothing developed and while reeling i discovered the culprit was nothing more than a velvet swimmer, he wasn't pleased to see me either. once daylight had come, the whites went deeper until they became unreachable. so i changed tactics, out came the peeler and maddies and out went a three hook flapper to about 5 yds. within seconds the rod went haywire and a nice schoolie was landed, he was soon followed by a flounder with plaice spots only on his flanks and a pretty little dab.
by this point it was now possible to target the reefs as the tide had come in sufficiently, my first cast to the kelp forest resulted in a decent bite which was followed by a quick scrap and a lost fish, most definitely a nice wrasse, it had dove straight down and decided it wasn't coming out. the third cast also resulted in a very nice fish, this was probably a cod or Pollock as it hit me on the sink, this time i bullied the fish and wasn't letting it have its way, unfortunately in my haste i pulled the hook out and lost the fish. fish kept bitting away but any decent fish failed to be landed, a few small codling and a small ballan wrasse where eventually landed. my final cast resulted in the ultimate birdie, you know how it is people walking by and all you can think about is showing off how far you can cast
 so i decided to pack up and head for home.
